Fargo is located on the western bank of the Red
River of the North in a very flat region known as the Red River Valley. The
Red River Valley was once a part of glacial Lake Agassiz, which drained away
about 9,300 years ago. The lake sediments deposited from Lake Agassiz made
the land around Fargo some of the richest in the world for agricultural uses.
Early settlers sometimes called the Red River Valley a new "Garden of
Eden." |

Dacotah Chapter 5003 ND
Organized 26 June 1919
In 1919 Luella Davis Hildreth (Mrs.
Melvin A.) was appointed the organizing regent of Dacotah Chapter. She was
accepted as a member of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution
on 1 April 1897 and was a charter member of the short lived William Mason
Chapter. The new chapter was composed of fifteen charter members, including
a few members from the William Mason Chapter who had become members at large.
Dacotah Chapter chose its name from the Sioux who had inhabited the area.
The word "dacotah" was said to mean friend. Under the capable leadership
of Mrs. Hildreth, Dacotah increased its membership to thirty-three by the
end of the first year.
After over 85 years of service to God, Home and Country, Dacotah Chapter
proudly remains North Dakota's largest chapter. |

The goal of this Chapter is to promote the objects
of the DAR, particularly in North Dakota and the Fargo-Moorhead area.
The DAR, founded in 1890 and headquartered in Washington,
DC, is a volunteer women's service organization dedicated to promoting
patriotism, preserving American history, and securing America's future through
better education for children. |
